Toadbury Hall

We are Toadbury Hall, a country hotel and wedding estate tucked into quiet farmland at Elandsdrift, twenty minutes from both Johannesburg and Pretoria and just five minutes from Lanseria International Airport — close enough for your guests to find easily, far enough that the city falls away completely the moment they turn off the tar road. We like to say that around the corner is a faraway place, and that is exactly the feeling we want your wedding day to have.

At the heart of the estate is Toad Hall, our thatched main banqueting hall, where glass doors open onto a covered veranda overlooking manicured lawns and gardens. It comfortably holds between 40 and 160 guests, so whether you are planning an intimate gathering or a full celebration with every cousin invited, the room scales with you without ever feeling like a compromise. For something smaller and quieter, we also offer Bijou, our romantic in-house restaurant with its old-world elegance and charm, and our Boma, where the evening can end around a roaring fire under open sky, with a Bedouin tent on hand if you want to lean into that. Between our banqueting hall, Bijou and the Boma, we can host a plated fine-dining reception, a generous buffet, a bohemian harvest-table spread, or a traditional South African braai and spitbraai — our chefs build the menu around what your day actually needs, not the other way round.

Ceremonies happen either in Toad Chapel, a quaint, olde-English-style chapel set in a tranquil garden, or in Rose Chapel, an open-air setting surrounded by rose and lavender beds that, depending on the season, will already be doing half the decorating work for you. From either, it is a short walk to whichever reception space you have chosen.

We know load shedding is a real worry for anyone planning a South African wedding, so every package we offer, from our full wedding packages through to our micro-wedding packages for up to 30 guests, includes back-up power as standard. Your reception will not go dark because the grid did.

Behind the scenes, you get a dedicated wedding coordinator from the day you book, and we work exclusively with our in-house décor partner, Spectacular Occasions, and our in-house draping specialists, so the people dressing your venue already know every inch of it — no guesswork, and no risk to the structures we have spent years looking after. The bride and groom each get a private room to get ready in on the day, complete with a complimentary snack platter, and the couple spends their first night as newlyweds in our honeymoon suite on the house, with a complimentary one-night anniversary stay to follow a year later.

If you or your guests want to stay over, we have ten well-appointed rooms on the estate offered to wedding parties at a discounted rate, with overflow arrangements at neighbouring properties when a wedding fills the house. Rooms come with queen beds, air-conditioning, DSTV and their own patios opening onto the gardens, so nobody has to drive home in the dark after your last dance.

We have been doing this long enough to know that a wedding venue is really a feeling, not just a floor plan.
