Creating a Wedding Scrapbook

Creating a scrapbook of your wedding is one of the best ways to preserve the memories of your special day. Here’s how to go about it…

What do I need for scrapbooking?

  • A scrapbook album – select an appropriate size and colour that fits in with your wedding theme
  • Refill pages
  • A sharp pair of scrapbooking scissors
  • An adhesive which works on photos and cardstock
  • Cardstock, or patterned paper, which matches the theme of your wedding
  • Fine-tipped marker pens
  • A flat workspace and a storage area.

Where to buy scrapbooking supplies?

  • Scrapbooking supplies can be bought at specialized scrapbooking stores, craft shops or even some supermarkets.

How to get started scrapbooking

  • Decide what you want to achieve with your scrapbook – will it include everything from the engagement to the honeymoon or will it tell the story of the wedding day, only?
  • How many pages will it be? It might be useful to create a sketch of your proposed layout
  • Decide on a look and feel – for example, contemporary, vintage or romantic
  • Decide on a colour scheme – your wedding colour scheme would be a good choice

Your scrapbook could include the following embellishments:

  • Photographs
  • Engagement announcement or invitations
  • Wedding and bridal shower invitations
  • Fabric samples from your dress and those of the bridesmaids
  • Bridal registry
  • Order of service pamphlets, name cards, congratulations and thank-you cards etc.
  • Napkins
  • Dried flowers from your floral arrangements
  • Honeymoon tickets, receipts etc.

How to create a scrapbook page

  • Decide what you want the page to be about – for example, it could be about a concrete aspect of the wedding, like the First Dance, or an abstract concept, like ‘Things for Which I’m Grateful’
  • Choose a focal photo – for example, the bride and groom dancing the First Dance
  • Choose a few other photos to compliment the focal photo – for example, the guests looking on
  • Choose a cardstock for the background
  • Choose some memorabilia and embellishments to compliment the photos and the cardstock, and which add to the story of the page
  • Create a title and journal entry on un-patterned paper – this can be written with fine-tipped markers or typed
  • Lay out the photos, journal entry and title, memorabilia and embellishments first, before you stick them down on the card
  • Once you’re happy with the layout, get busy sticking!

TIP: Always have a duplicate set of photos printed – work with the copies and keep the originals in a safe place.

Remember, it’s always nice to start your scrapbook with a dedication page, detailing who you are thankful to, why you’re creating the book and why yours was such a special day.
