Taking Perfect Honeymoon Photographs

Ah, the wedding photos! Shot by a professional, each moment of your wedding celebration has been perfectly captured, to be preserved in a photo album for posterity. With the hustle, bustle and fuss of the wedding over, you’re looking forward to relaxing with your new spouse in that fab honeymoon destination…wouldn’t it be great to get your photographer to tag along, to shoot your honeymoon pics, too? Alas, it looks like you’ll have to make do with your own skill and camera. And you’ll be just fine, if you follow our eight great tips to perfect honeymoon photography…

Tip One: Give some thought to your honeymoon pics in advance. If you don’t already have one, invest in a good digital camera to capture your honeymoon memories.

Tip Two: Get to know your new piece of equipment before you set off on your trip. Explore the light settings and colour modes and familiarize yourself with the zoom and crop features. If you have a film camera, instead of a digital one, practice loading film and spooling it on when the roll is finished – you don’t want to run the risk of over-exposing your photos because you didn’t wind the spool on correctly.

Tip Three: Protect your new asset. It’s advisable to ensure your new camera is insured. Also, invest in a decent protective camera bag.

Tip Four: Along with your camera, pack a travel tripod, battery charger and extra memory sticks. If you’re going with a film camera, pack plenty of film.

Tip Five: Have fun exploring your honeymoon destination; don’t get stressed out by constantly being on the look-out for the perfect shot, but always have your camera on hand, in case something grabs your attention – it could be changes in the light, the scenery, landmarks, or the local people going about their daily business.

Tip Six: Strike a pose…or not. Keep in mind that candid, spontaneous moments often make the best photos. It’s perfectly acceptable not to pose in every single photo. Imagine stumbling across a hillside covered in wildflowers…and snapping a shot of the new bride facing away from the camera, looking at the blossoms…

Tip Seven: Remember that strangers love to take pictures of happy honeymoon couples! Don’t be afraid to ask someone else to take a shot of the two of you together. Just beware of fly-by-nights – make sure that the person to whom you entrust your camera isn’t going to hightail it down the street with your camera the minute your back is turned!

Tip Eight: Honeymooning at the seaside or tropical island destination? Consider a disposable underwater camera to capture the stunning aquatic life under the sea…and your underwater kisses, of course!
